The short answer is, intelligence is the self-aware surface of life. Life is not in the organism, but in all the organisms and all their instrumentalities. The fact that humans are sufficiently intelligent to write about intelligence does not reserve intelligence to humans. We are merely a pen in the fingers of life, writing about itself, each of our individual lives, everything we say and do, merely a few phrases in a book far longer and more deeply intertwined than we understand.
If life takes other intelligent forms they will be our children too. We are all Buddha, Christ, Prometheus, Tao and Atman together. What is there to worry about in this?
